Socialization Need Not Stop – Find New Ways.

Nowadays, most of us are working virtually and the ‘human-factor’ has almost escaped our lives. We are no longer used to the usual lives of meeting and greeting our colleagues or peers and doing things ‘together’ in a physical space. This might impact our mental health and while we are going through these times of transition, checking on how we feel mentally is important. This is because our mental health is a journey, not a destination and it is vital that we strengthen ourselves for this journey, especially during a time when we might not have the right social supports in place.

For example, initiatives like Coffee Mornings with Mom need not stop. There is always a way to have events like this conducted virtually. Similarly, occasions like birthdays and wedding anniversaries can be conducted using a common Zoom-ID. Virtual situation can literally be ‘created’ if one wants to. Events like night-outs, pajama parties, dance parties, fancy dress shows and even competitions are doable thanks to the internet!

We must consider that virtual interaction offers almost everything that one can do in real life. Online, we can hear the voices and look at the faces of our loved ones. If we train our minds to get over the idea that we are not together, physically, and think of the ways virtual togetherness is possible, we will be able to uplift ourselves from this uncertainty. This will be the best way to create a positive impact and enhance our day to day routine while COVID-19 still lasts.
